Health in Canterbury

Pegasus Health supports general practice, education and digital systems, while Southern Cross Christchurch operates a surgical hospital and specialist campus.1,2 They illustrate different service settings, not approved uses of this course. A fictional Canterbury provider can practise preparing an internal facilities briefing without involving a real patient or clinical decision.

Copilot's app functions include document drafting, spreadsheet analysis, email assistance and meeting summaries.5 TheColab selects exercises around the features your organisation enables. Include the office lead and the person who approves information handling. The outcome should be a reviewed administrative task and a clear boundary for what staff may attempt next.

Paid employees in health went from 34,964 in February 2020 to 40,559 in February 2025 (+16.0%).

Where Copilot helps health teams

  • Draft a facilities update in Word

Reference a public visitor-information page and a fabricated office change notice. Request a staff briefing with questions for the facilities owner. Check access directions, contact details and ambiguous wording against the originals. Keep treatment instructions out of the example, and label the document as a training draft.

    • Service administrators
    • Copilot in Word
  • Review a supplier exchange

Use Outlook with a made-up equipment-order thread. Summarise what the supplier has confirmed and which delivery details remain open. The purchasing officer checks the order reference before replying. A suggested substitute item requires the normal procurement review; the draft should not imply it has already been accepted.

    • Procurement coordinators
    • Copilot in Outlook
  • Summarise an office project discussion

Try Teams on an authorised mock meeting about a reception-space change. Extract actions and dependencies without including personal health details. Participants verify the assigned owners. Use the exercise to decide how a reviewed recap will be stored, rather than let it become an uncontrolled alternative to the project record.

    • Administration project leads
    • Copilot in Teams
  • Check non-clinical report categories

In Excel, examine synthetic supply-order data and a category dictionary. Ask for unmatched rows and a summary by order status. Inspect the calculation before presenting it to a manager. Patient activity, small identifiable groups and clinical outcomes should not enter this introductory reporting exercise.

    • Contract support analysts
    • Copilot in Excel
  • Test an office-policy helper

Copilot Studio can ground an agent in selected knowledge.6 Build a trial helper over approved public office guidance. Ask a clinical question during testing and confirm it directs the user to an appropriate human channel. Publish only after the knowledge owner reviews both ordinary answers and out-of-scope requests.

    • Information and systems staff
    • Copilot Studio

A public-information briefing exercise

  1. Agree an office-only task and select public source documents.
  2. Add a fictional facilities change without names or patient circumstances.
  3. Use Word to draft the staff update and identify facts that require confirmation.
  4. Have the service owner inspect the sources and approve a final training version.

Health in Canterbury: questions

Can practice managers attend without clinical staff?

Yes, when the task concerns office administration. Bring the staff member who approves the procedure or report. Use the session to identify matters that need clinical or information-governance input before any wider pilot starts.

Do we need a clinical dataset?

No patient dataset is needed for these exercises. Synthetic supply orders, public information and fictional meeting notes teach useful drafting and verification skills. They also let attendees make mistakes safely while learning how to inspect the result.

Will Teams recap every meeting automatically?

Meeting capabilities depend on your configured environment and available features. Confirm recording, transcript and access rules with the administrator. We can use a prepared mock transcript when a live meeting exercise is unsuitable.5

Can training happen at our health workplace?

TheColab travels to Canterbury workplaces for team sessions. Choose an administrative room away from patient-facing work and use approved demonstration files. Public workshop days can help office staff develop initial skills before an organisation designs its rollout.
