Retail in West Coast
In a generic Greymouth hardware office, a sales export and supplier messages can answer different parts of the same stock question. Copilot provides Excel analysis and Outlook drafting, alongside Word and Teams capabilities. The available experience depends on the account and configuration.4 We choose a practical question and test which functions your team can actually use.
West Coast retail and wholesale teams can train with TheColab at their own workplace. Bring the office administrator and a store leader so both calculation and practical meaning receive a check. Start with approved sample data, then work through a report, a staff instruction and an agreed follow-up. Include the person responsible for Microsoft 365 access when planning broader use.
Paid employees in retail went from 1,763 in February 2020 to 1,800 in February 2025 (+2.1%).

Local context
- Greymouth's retail-centre role is documented by council. DWC's 2026 commercial-hub announcement names Unichem Olsen's Pharmacy as its first tenant, and Mitre 10 lists stores across the main Coast towns. Training scenarios here concern retail administration rather than clinical advice.1,2,31,2,3

Where Copilot helps retail teams
Review sales by branch and category
Use a structured Excel table that defines gross sales, returns and stock adjustments. Ask Copilot to suggest a category summary and explain the calculation. Compare the suggested totals with the source export. The store manager should investigate unusual entries before using the report to plan replenishment or staffing.

- Copilot in Excel
Draft a supplier follow-up
In Outlook, summarise the selected order thread with separate sections for confirmed dispatch and unanswered questions. Check whether an attachment changes the message's meaning. Prepare a follow-up asking about the missing point without promising stock to a customer. A buyer approves any commitment or change to the order.

Write a practical store briefing
Give Word the reviewed sales findings and approved product information. Draft a short briefing that explains the task, its owner and when staff should escalate questions. Check branch-specific details before placing the accepted text in Teams. A briefing should not turn an office assumption into a shop-floor instruction.

Trial a store-procedure agent
Copilot Studio can build agents using chosen knowledge sources and tools.5 Prototype a helper that locates approved ordering or delivery procedures. Test conflicting versions and queries with missing detail. Give the agent a maintainer and keep its source set limited; staff still need a clear way to reach the responsible supervisor.

Prepare a branch stock briefing
- Select the reconciled sales export and confirm the branch and product-category definitions.
- Use Excel to propose a summary, then check returns and adjustments against the original records.
- Draft the staff briefing in Word with only the manager's accepted actions and confirmed product facts.
- Share the approved version through Teams and file any supplier questions for a reviewed Outlook response.

Retail in West Coast: questions
Is this useful for a single store?
A sales table and a supplier thread can support a useful exercise. Scale the reporting question to the records and reviewer the store already has.
Do all staff need the same Copilot licence?
Match the pilot task to the features each role needs. Microsoft documents different access experiences; confirm app availability before assigning exercises.4
Can an agent answer a product-safety question?
Use an approved source and require staff to inspect it. Escalate unclear safety information to the supplier or competent person instead of accepting an unsupported agent answer.
What changes for a wholesale office?
Use trade-order categories and distinguish credit, dispatch and back-order stages. Have the commercial owner review any terms before an Outlook draft reaches the customer.
What should happen after the pilot?
Review errors with the file owner and the store manager. Expand only when another staff member can repeat the task and explain the checked result.
