Local context

  • Richmond Mall reports that its first redevelopment stage is open, with full completion forecast for the end of 2026. An operator forecast should remain labelled when it appears in any drafted customer notice.22
  • The Loggers Shop's Brightwater listing shows that local retail includes specialist forestry supplies. Such a business needs approved product context, quite different from the clothing and homewares listings at Māpua Wharf.3,43,4

Where Copilot helps retail teams

  • Investigate a stock question

Excel assistance can highlight trends and outliers.7 For a generic Tasman wholesaler, practise examining an export by product code and week. Distinguish returns from ordinary sales before interpreting a slow-moving line. Ask the buyer to check product changes and missing transactions, then decide whether the summary supports a reorder discussion.

    • Buyer or stock controller
    • Copilot in Excel tables
  • Prepare supplier follow-up

Outlook tools support drafting from correspondence.6 Give a cleared order thread and ask for a follow-up that lists outstanding items and evidence needed. The buyer reviews pack sizes, substitutions and agreed terms. Send only after the actual supplier message has been checked for changes that the summary may omit.

    • Wholesale purchasing officer
    • Copilot in Outlook drafts
  • Explain an approved store change

Use Word assistance for a staff notice.6 Practise turning a reviewed update about a product display or collection process into a concise briefing. Include who answers questions and which instruction it replaces. A supervisor checks that the final notice matches the approved change before placing it in the staff area.

    • Store manager
    • Copilot in Word staff notices
  • Capture a buying-meeting decision

Teams Copilot supports meeting summaries and questions.9 Review a permitted discussion about seasonal buying, separating a decision from an item held for supplier confirmation. Ask the buyer to accept each action. Set up transcription when the team needs to ask questions about the call after it ends.

    • Retail operations lead
    • Copilot in Teams meeting review
  • Prototype an internal policy finder

Studio agents can use selected knowledge sources.8 Build a practice assistant that locates the current collection or return-handling procedure. Restrict it to reviewed staff material. Test a customer exception that the document does not cover, and have the response direct staff to the responsible manager instead of improvising a policy.

    • Store systems administrator
    • Copilot Studio procedure agent

Turn a stock finding into a buying question

  1. Export a permitted sales table and remove customer identifiers.
  2. Explain returns and product codes before requesting a category summary.
  3. Reconcile the proposed finding with the buyer's transaction records.
  4. Draft a supplier question that preserves uncertainty and send it through normal review.

Retail in Tasman: questions

Can a single independent store join this training?

A store owner and an administrator can start with their own cleared sales export. We come to Tasman businesses and scope the session to their work. Bring the person who understands the tills and the person who makes buying decisions.

Do we need to change our point-of-sale system?

The first exercise uses a permitted export from your current system. It teaches interpretation and review. Any later connection should have a clear owner, a reason for live access and a check for what data it exposes.

Can staff practise without full in-app access?

Select tasks after checking each user's account. Microsoft's app guidance describes differences in Copilot access.6 A cleared document exercise can support an initial pilot, while deeper workbook and agent tasks need the relevant enabled features.

What should our retail supervisor review?

Check the product reference, source date, customer promise and escalation contact. For a chart, inspect the included rows and filters as well. Save a corrected example so the next shift can see how a plausible answer went wrong.
