Transport and logistics in Northland
Start with the work around a delivery: the booking thread, collection instructions, exception log and customer reply. Microsoft documents support for these office tasks across Outlook, Teams, Word and Excel. Feature access depends on the licence and tenant settings, so check the actual accounts before choosing exercises.4
TheColab comes to your Northland workplace for practical team training. A generic Ruakākā dispatch office could practise with invented collection jobs and a sample depot procedure. Staff learn to keep the source record visible, flag uncertain details and pass the final decision to the dispatcher.
Paid employees in transport and logistics went from 2,578 in February 2020 to 2,364 in February 2025 (−8.3%).

Local context
- Northport's FAQ separates expansion consents from the business case and investment decision needed for construction. That distinction matters when a freight office prepares planning notes. Marsden Metals' regional collection services provide another local context for handovers between customer service and yard staff.1,21,2

Where Copilot helps transport and logistics teams
Explain a changed collection
Use Outlook to summarise an approved booking conversation. Ask for the latest confirmed collection point, the unresolved question and a draft reply. Give the office team a conflicting instruction to spot during practice. The dispatcher checks the booking system before the message leaves the outbox. Email wording must not create a new service promise.4

- Copilot in Outlook
Inspect the freight exception table
In Excel, use a synthetic job table with status, depot and exception reason columns. Ask Copilot to suggest a formula that finds missing proof-of-delivery references. Check that formula on deliberately incomplete rows. Keep late arrivals separate from records that simply have no timestamp; an empty cell does not establish a failed delivery.4
- Transport administrator
- Copilot in Excel
Capture a depot handover
Where meeting features are enabled, Teams can help produce an action summary from a permitted handover. Request separate lists for confirmed actions and matters awaiting a call. The supervisor checks names, owners and delivery commitments against the discussion. Practise without driver personal details, and use the organisation's meeting-recording rules.4
- Depot supervisor
- Copilot in Teams
Draft collection instructions
Give Word an approved procedure and ask for a customer-facing draft that follows its order. Include a clear instruction to retain loading restrictions exactly. Compare the result with the original before it goes into a booking email. The session should test whether Copilot invents access arrangements when the procedure has no answer.4
- Operations support lead
- Copilot in Word
Trial a staff procedure agent
A maker can build a Copilot Studio prototype over selected depot guidance. Ask it where staff should send an incomplete collection request, with a link to the source. Test obsolete procedures and out-of-scope questions before release. Start with information retrieval; review action permissions separately before connecting any live dispatch process.5

- Copilot Studio knowledge agent
Practise a disputed booking
- Prepare an invented booking thread with a revised pickup location.
- Ask Outlook for a summary that separates agreed details from open questions.
- Compare the draft with the job record and correct any unsupported promise.
- Have the dispatcher approve the customer reply and save the checked handover.

Transport and logistics in Northland: questions
Can dispatch staff start with Copilot Chat?
Check the functions available in their account first. App access and work-data grounding differ across Microsoft's documented experiences.4
Will training choose vehicle routes?
Use the workshop for office preparation and checking. Keep route choice, loading decisions and live operating instructions with authorised transport staff.
Can the examples include port expansion?
Use the current public FAQ and label proposals clearly. Northport does not treat a consent as a completed build.1
Where can our team attend?
