What Copilot can help with

Lesson 2 of 5 · 3 min

Allow 3 minutes. Choose one small task you will practise today.

Copilot responds to instructions in ordinary language. It can help you draft and rewrite text, summarise information and work with a supplied file. It can still produce a confident answer that is wrong.

Pick a practical first task

Imagine an invented Hamilton accountancy office. Its administrator needs a reminder about a document deadline. Copilot can suggest wording from approved notes. A person must confirm the deadline, recipients and tone.

Good starting tasks have a clear source and a small output:

  • Turn supplied notes into three bullet points.
  • Rewrite a draft in plain NZ English.
  • Make a checklist from an approved process.

Keep a person responsible for decisions about people, contracts, money and safety. Asking for a confident tone does not make an answer reliable.

Know the two work experiences

Copilot Chat is included at no extra cost with eligible work subscriptions. The paid Copilot licence adds broader work context across Microsoft 365. Some in-app features are also available without that add-on. We will check the label on your account next.

Tip: Start with the invented examples in this course. Choose a small draft you can compare with its source.

Try it: 1 minute

Write one task as a sentence: "I want a draft of ___, based on ___, which I will check against ___." Choose a non-sensitive source.

Done when: you can name the task, its source and a person who will check it.
