Choose the right account and plan
Allow 4 minutes. An account and a licence are different things. Use your organisation's approved account for work.
The plan map

| Microsoft Copilot free, with a personal account | A place to practise with invented or public material. Personal privacy controls apply. |
| Microsoft 365 Personal, Family, Premium or Pro | Individual subscriptions with Copilot features and usage limits. They do not establish your employer's work account or permissions. |
| Copilot Chat with an eligible work account | Included at no extra cost. Business Basic, Business Standard and Business Premium are among the eligible Microsoft 365 plans. |
| Microsoft 365 Copilot Business | A paid add-on for eligible subscriptions, for up to 300 users. It gives broader work grounding and priority access. |
| Microsoft 365 Copilot | Available with qualifying plans such as Microsoft 365 E3 or E5. Microsoft 365 E7 includes Copilot. Your administrator checks the exact entitlement. |
Microsoft's NZ sales pages still use Microsoft 365 Copilot Business. Learn documentation now also uses Microsoft Copilot Business. Confirm the product name and eligibility when you buy. Ask your administrator about the base plan, the Copilot licence, and whether Teams is included. A Copilot purchase does not supply every underlying app licence.
Read the label in the app
- Copilot Chat (Basic): chat without Copilot chat in Word, Excel, PowerPoint or OneNote.
- Microsoft 365 Copilot (Basic): standard in-app access without the add-on.
- Microsoft 365 Copilot (Premium) or (Pro): the add-on experience with priority access.
Availability depends on your tenant configuration. Standard access can be limited by service capacity. Do not assume that everyone who sees a Copilot button has the same features. A personal Microsoft 365 Premium plan and a work app's Premium label describe different things.
