Module 2: Your first good prompts
Turn notes into a checked summary
Allow 5 minutes. This Wellington HR team and its notes are invented. There is no employee case information here.
Source notes
Office welcome meeting, last week.
The team agreed to trial a revised induction checklist.
The coordinator will draft the checklist by Tuesday next week.
The office manager will review the draft.
No review date was agreed.
The idea of a buddy programme was discussed, not approved. Before and after
Before: "Summarise our meeting and tell everyone what to do."
After:
Summarise only the notes above for a Wellington HR team.
Return three sections: decisions, actions, and open questions.
For each action give the owner and the due date, if stated.
Write 'not agreed' where a detail is missing.
Keep proposals separate from decisions.
Use NZ English. Do not infer approval from discussion.Check the important distinction
The checklist trial was agreed. The buddy programme was only discussed. A summary that says both were approved changes the meeting's meaning.
The coordinator has a deadline. The manager has no agreed review date. Keep the review date marked as not agreed.
Try it: 3 minutes
Run the prompt. Match each decision and action to a line in the notes. Ask: "Which open question should we resolve before circulating this?" Then request a draft follow-up note based on the checked summary.
Done when: the draft separates a decision, a proposal and a missing date. Keep it as a practice draft.
