Professional services in Waikato
Hamilton has established professional offices, including Deloitte and PwC. The council also identifies technology and innovation as a key sector.1,2,3 Training can therefore cover office administration and technical service work without treating every firm as an accounting practice.
In a fictional Cambridge consultancy, an administrator could prepare follow-up questions from an email thread while a manager checks a draft report. We build the exercise around a clear source set and an approval owner. Microsoft's app experiences and access to work context vary with the licence and tenant settings; these need checking before the session.6
Paid employees in professional services went from 27,955 in February 2020 to 30,390 in February 2025 (+8.7%).

Where Copilot helps professional services teams
Find unanswered engagement questions
Work with a sample Outlook exchange about a project scope. Ask Copilot to list requests that have no clear reply, then draft a message seeking the missing information. Review names, attachments and the scope before sending. An unanswered question should stay visible rather than disappear inside a polite summary that makes the assignment seem complete.6
- Client services administrator
- Copilot in Outlook
Assemble a report from approved notes
In Word, draft a fictional technical report using a supplied brief and reviewed findings. Give Copilot a section structure and ask it to separate evidence from recommendations. Check whether it introduces a claim from outside the source set. The author should revise the draft while the engagement reviewer assesses the reasoning, not simply accept a professionally formatted document.6
- Report author
- Copilot in Word
Explain workbook assumptions
Use Excel with fabricated project costs and clearly labelled categories. Ask for a formula explanation and a table of records excluded from the calculation. Have a participant check the logic on selected entries. Then prepare a short note on assumptions for the manager. Training should make the workbook easier to inspect rather than hide its logic behind generated commentary.6
- Finance or project analyst
- Copilot in Excel
Test an internal practice guide
Build a Copilot Studio prototype over approved internal guidance, such as report naming and review steps. Keep client advice and matter-specific records outside the initial scope. Try a question the guide cannot answer and inspect the fallback. The practice owner and maker agree who maintains the knowledge and who may publish changes before staff rely on the helper.7
- Practice systems owner
- Copilot Studio
Prepare a scope clarification
- Supply an invented engagement thread and the accepted scope document.
- List the client's requests and locate the relevant scope passages.
- Ask for a draft that states the unresolved issue plainly.
- Have the engagement manager approve the clarification before it leaves the office.

Professional services in Waikato: questions
Which staff should join the first practice session?
Include someone who prepares the material and someone who approves it. That pairing lets you inspect both the draft and its review cost. Add the systems administrator when the exercise depends on document access or a Studio prototype.
Will Copilot have every practice file available?
Do not assume that. Microsoft distinguishes licence-dependent work grounding and supplied content.6 Confirm the tenant configuration and the user's permitted access, then limit the training task to an approved set of files that the reviewer understands.
Can an internal agent give professional advice?
Start with administrative guidance and an escalation path. Studio can combine knowledge and tools, so its purpose needs a deliberate limit.7 A practice guide should identify the adviser to contact when a question concerns a live engagement.
