Microsoft Copilot for construction offices in the Waikato
Waikato construction cooled in the year to March 2025, and consent paperwork did not get shorter. Copilot helps the project office keep up with mail, meetings and drafts.

Construction and trades in Waikato
Stats NZ recorded 2,807 new dwellings consented in the region in the year ended July 2025, down 7.1 per cent on the year before1. The chamber monitor shows residential consents down 10.9 per cent in the year to March 20252. Builders are chasing fewer new homes and more careful clients.
Build Waikato shares forms across eight councils, but the application still goes to the council that issues the consent. Foster Construction was appointed to build a depot at Ruakura. Camex Civil runs from Cambridge, with a Taupō depot. Their project teams, if they are on Microsoft 365, can use Copilot on the correspondence and the cost sheet. The consent decision stays with the council and the qualified people.

Do site carpenters need licences?
Only if they already work in Teams, Outlook, Word or Excel. Most firms start with project managers, administrators and estimators. The crew on the tools is a later decision.
Can Copilot lodge a consent?
No. Build Waikato is clear that the application goes to the local council. Copilot can help staff find the right internal checklist. The lodgement is still a person using the council channel.
Do you come to Cambridge or Taupō as well as Hamilton?
Yes. Training can be at the yard or the office anywhere in the region, or delivered live in Teams.
What should the pilot group bring?
A redacted cost sheet, one variation thread, and a past tender section the firm is happy to reuse as a pattern.
